Meet the Next Generation of Backer Rod Insertion Tools

Albion Engineering introduces the next generation of Backer Rod Insertion Tools —the 640-7 and 640-8. Engineered to install foam backer rod quickly and efficiently, these tools deliver consistent depth and a professional finish every time.

Designed with the user in mind, both models feature a newly developed soft-grip handle that enhances comfort and control during extended use. This ergonomic upgrade helps reduce hand fatigue, allowing contractors to stay productive across long runs and demanding applications.

640-7: Built for Floor Joints and Precision Depth Control

The 640-7 (3-Wheel Model) is purpose-built for saw cut and expansion joints, delivering enhanced stability and control during installation. Its three-wheel design helps guide the backer rod smoothly into the joint, ensuring consistent placement without damaging the backer rod.

Located in the center is an adjustable insertion wheel with precision-marked depth settings allows for accurate placement in 1/8″ increments, up to 1″ deep, giving users the control needed to meet specific joint requirements.

The integrated Picatinny rail provides the option to mount a rechargeable LED flashlight, improving visibility in low-light or enclosed conditions.

Designed for versatility on the jobsite, the 640-7 is compatible with standard extension poles or broom handles, making it ideal for floor joint applications and extended reach scenarios. This unit includes four insertion wheels (1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″) along with a tamping blade, allowing users to easily adapt the tool to a wide range of applications.

640-8: Designed for Detail Work and Tight Spaces

Also available is the 640-8 (Single Wheel Model), designed for more detailed applications such as setting backer rod around windows, doors, and confined spaces where maneuverability is key.

The single-wheel design allows for precise placement while maintaining the same comfort and control benefits as the 640-7. Like its counterpart, the 640-8 is compatible with extension poles and includes multiple insertion wheels and a tamping blade for versatility across jobsite conditions.

Built on a Proven Platform

Albion’s backer rod insertion tools have long been trusted by professionals for their ability to place foam backer rod quickly, at a consistent depth, and without puncturing, helping ensure proper joint preparation before sealant application. The 640-7 and 640-8 build on this proven foundation with enhanced ergonomics, added functionality, and improved adaptability for modern jobsite demands.
